The Vancouver Experience

Nat Bailey Stadium - Home of the Vancouver Canadians

As mentioned in my first post, I played my first season in Vancouver, the short season low-A farm team of the A's. Our season went from mid June into early September, whereas a full baseball season is from April-September, hence the term short season. My experience in Vancouver was all that I could have asked for and then some. I lived with a host family who made me feel like I was living at home, even being on the opposite coast and in a different country. I played under a great coaching staff who were there to help the players get better, and they did just that. I met some great guys who I still keep in touch with throughout the offseason and who will be lifelong friends. And to top it all off, my parents and sister were able to visit and watch me play. Needless to say, it was a summer I will never forget.

On the field I saw time primarily at second base, but also saw time at shortstop, third base, and believe it or not, on the pitching mound. I will be sure to post a very entertaining story about a game where I played third base. I started the season a little slow with the bat, but with the help of our great coaching staff was able to learn and develop my skills throughout the summer and saw that turn into some success on the field. I have been working hard this offseason to improve my mechanics and skills for next season. This is just a brief overview of my summer, but I will follow with more details into the day-to-day routine during the season and offseason.

Following the draft and up to the current time myself and my family have seen unbelievable support from JMU, the Torrington and Litchfield County community, and many others. I want to thank everyone for the support and I hope that this blog can be a way to stay in contact with all of you and give back in any way that I can. Many people have asked about a website to follow my progress, the following is a link to a page that displays my stats from the summer and will continually update when next season starts. Minor League Baseball stats. You can find any other current minor league player by using the search tool on the Minor League Baseball website.

I first heard about the idea of having a blog through a good friend that I met playing baseball this summer, Jeff Bercume. I played with Jeff on the Vancouver Canadians this past summer, and he told me about how he writes a blog that talks about his baseball journey and all of the baseball knowledge that he has learned on the way. You can access Jeff's blogs at the following site: http://108stitchez.com/

I am from Torrington, CT and I am a recent graduate of James Madison University. While attending JMU, I played four years of college baseball and was selected as the 1145 pick (38th round) of the 2010 MLB Draft in June. I played my first professional season this past summer in the beautiful city of Vancouver, Canada. I am currently in my first off-season as a professional baseball player.

I am starting this blog to keep my friends and family updated on my baseball career and the journey that it has been and is sure to be in the future. This is also for baseball fans of all ages who are interested in the life of a minor leaguer, a college baseball player and the steps that I took to reach these levels. I will be covering a wide variety of topics that will interest fans, players, parents, kids, and coaches so be sure to tell your family and friends to check it out. Thanks.
